STATEMENT OF THE LIMPOPO EXECUTIVE COUNCIL ON THE OUTCOMES OF ITS LEKGOTLA HELD ON THE 04-05 FEBRUARY 2010

Limpopo Executive Council held its first lekgotla of the year on the 04 – 05 of February 2010 in Polokwane. Lekgotla was attended by the Premier, MECs, Executive Mayors of District Municipalities, HODs, District Municipal Managers, CEOs of Parastatals, representatives of national departments and other senior government officials.

Underpinning this lekgotla was the evaluation and assessment of the performance of the provincial government since 2009 nationwide democratic elections, the identification of challenges faced by the government in carrying out its electoral mandate and, above all, the development of the programme of action, POA, of the provincial government for the next financial year, 2008/09. PREMIER CASSEL MATHALE CELEBRATES HIS BIRTHDAY IN GIYANI, NWADZEKUDZEKU VILLAGE

04 February 2010

The premier of Limpopo Cassel Mathale together with the first lady Mokgadi Mathale will this weekend celebrate his birthday with children in the Giyani area. The premier turned 49 two weeks ago on the 23rd of January, a day which he spent opening the brand new and world class Peter Mokaba stadium.

Premier Mathale will begin his day by handing over a computer lab and classrooms at the Nkami High School in Giyani in the Nwadzekudzeku Village. The computers where donated by Webcom Technologies Pty Ltd. [read more]
 

LIMPOPO EXECUTIVE COUNCIL LEKGOTLA

The Limpopo provincial government under the leadership of Premier Cassel Mathale will hold its first Lekgotla in 2010.

The lekgotla will be held in Polokwane on 04-05 February 2010 and attended by the MECs; department HODs; District Mayors and their Municipal Managers; Parastatals CEOs as well as National Departments in the province. [read more]

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has arrived in Switzerland to attend the 40th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) which kicks off today.

MARCUS TO ANNOUNCE DECISION ON REPO RATE

Pretoria - Reserve Bank Governor Gill Marcus will later today announce the Monetary Policy Committee’s (MPC) decision on the repo rate.

RESCUE SA TEAM TO RETURN TONIGHT

Pretoria – The first Rescue South Africa (RSA) team, which was helping with immediate search and rescue operations in the earthquake stricken Haiti, is expected to return home later today.

MARADONA DISMISSES SECURITY CONCERNS

Johannesburg - Argentinean national coach Diego Maradona has dismissed security concerns ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and encouraged fans to come to South Africa for the tournament.

POLICE NAIL 'E.TV CRIMINAL'

Pretoria - Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa has confirmed that they have arrested one of two men who allegedly threatened to murder and rob foreigners during this year's FIFA World Cup in an interview broadcasted on e.tv.

"Our specialised unit, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations - the Hawks, in the early hours of this morning arrested one of the self-confessed kingpins in Tshepisong, near Kagiso," Mthethwa told a National Press Club briefing today.

Thohoyandou – The deadline is looming for poor learners in Limpopo's Vhembe District who want to apply for bursaries to further their studies at university or Further Education and Training (FET) colleges.

PREMIER CASSEL MATHALE LEADS A PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT DELEGATION TO UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Limpopo Premier Mr. Cassel Mathale will lead a government delegation to United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a trade and investment promotion mission. The delegation will leave on the 16th of January and return on the 19th of January 2010. MEC MAGADZI URGES CITIZENS TO HAND OVER THEIR FIREARMS

The Limpopo MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison, Ms. Dikeledi Magadzi has urged the people of Limpopo and corporations to take advantage of the firearm amnesty by handing over their firearms voluntarily and without delay

Magadzi said those who fail to do so during the three-month long (January 11 – April 11, 2010) amnesty period will face the full might of the law if found in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.. [read more]
 

 

VARSITY BURSARIES UP FOR GRABS

Polokwane - The Executive Mayor of the Mopani District Municipality in Giyani, Limpopo, Joshua Matlou, is giving away bursaries to students from poor backgrounds and those with disabilities in the district.

"These bursaries will be awarded to learners who have passed Grade 12 with a Bachelor Admission and who wish to further their studies in civil engineering, quantity surveying and construction in the engineering field; food management, animal science, plant production and soil science in the agricultural field; and accounting sciences and internal auditing in the sciences management field," said Matlou. JORDAAN SLAMS 2010 DOUBLE STANDARDS

Johannesburg - Local Organising Committee chairperson Danny Jordaan has lambasted certain foreign media who have called for the 2010 World Cup to be removed from South Africa after the attack on the Togolese national soccer team in Angola.

ZUMA TO ATTEND AFCON OPENING CEREMONY

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will be part of the dignitaries expected to attend the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opening ceremony on Sunday in Luanda, Angola. He will be accompanied by the Minister in the Presidency, Collins Chabane.

The Limpopo provincial Executive Council held its Budget Lekgotla yesterday, 12 November 2009 in Polokwane, The Ranch Protea Hotel.

The provincial Budget Lekgotla was held to evaluate the 2nd quarter government cluster performance, 2009/10 adjustment estimates and the alignment of 2010/11 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) budget allocation with the new mandates of government. [read more]
