Premier urges public to acquaint themselves with Batho Pele Principles
- Tuesday, 09 December 2014
By Maanda Mulaudzi
It is important that Batho Pele principles not only be known by public servants alone, all of us must acquaint ourselves with them, said Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha during Batho Pele Day Celebrations which was held at Lekgwareng Village in Mopani District on 29 November 2014.
In his speech delivered by MEC Jerry Ndou, Premier Mathabatha urged the public that they should not just cram the principles for the purpose of interviews in public service, and forget them as soon as they walk out of the interview room.
He said that by knowing these principles it will ensure them that they are not short changed by public officials when they render service to them. “As members of the public, you should also know what you are entitled to receive and only then you will be able to demand nothing less”. he said.
“Over the years the government has introduced a number of initiatives aimed at bringing services to the people. Part of these initiatives includes the Community Development Worker Programme and Ward Committees. Every ward has a designated CDW and a Ward Committee representative. Community Development Workers are mandated to work in communities, seeking to address the problems and challenges facing these communities”.
“Again as part of the government efforts to take services to the people, our government is running a very effective public participation programme in a form of Exco Imbizos”. He urged members of the public to take full advantage of platforms such as Imbizos and be ensued that their voices are heard.
