The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and the Department of Economic Development jointly hosted the event of Go loma marula at Ga-Chuene Resort on 14 February 2015.
The MEC for Sport, Art and Culture Nandi Ndalane said that the celebration was an indication of the fact that we love our culture and we want to preserve our heritage.
“This ritual plays an important role in promoting cultural diversity, social cohesion, reconciliation, peace and economic development in South Africa. We should not be ashamed to do it. We all know that the art of brewing morula will slowly fade away if we do not popularize it in this fashion” MEC Ndalane said.
She told traditional leaders and members of the communities who were gathered at the ceremony that the celebration could be done in different ways such as Oral history, Performance, Ritual, Popular memory, Skills and techniques, Indigenous knowledge system and the holistic approach to nature, society and social relationships.
Ms Ndalane called upon traditional leaders to make sure that this celebration was not treated as an event but a process that leads to our communities realizing the importance of preserving our culture, our tradition and our practices.
