Limpopo learner scoops President’s award

Tirshnique Southon, a grade 12 learners at Pepps Polokwane School made the Limpopo Province proud by winning the President’s award. She became aware of this initiative through her friend’s aunt. She opted to do something new, different and challenging in her life in order to impact the community she lives in.

The President’s award comprises of four categories which are: sport, adventurous journey and community services. Tirshnique participated in all four categories and she won the bronze prize because she did community work. To win the silver award, one has to do community work for 3 months for 24 hours.


Apart from community work, she participated in Karate and adventurous journey where she had hike up Modimolle Mountain for 4 kilometres.

She started her community services at drop-in centres by giving basic needs to the disabled children. This extended her passion to serve community as she continues to work with Blood Bank. Her role was to serve tea and biscuits on voluntarily basis

Tirshnique Southon is also a bountiful and big-hearted girl who usually creates special Christmas to children who suffer serious privations. “We organise a very special gathering with kids who are needy. We cook for them and also spend time with them on a Christmas day”, she added. In the same vein, she has shown humanitarianism to people in Pretoria by giving them handouts in 2014.
