By Thembi Siweya
The Limpopo Youth Month programme was recently launched in Polokwane, Jack Botes hall on the 8th of June 2015. This year’s youth month is commemorated under the theme ‘Youth in Action for Economic Freedom in our Lifetime’. The event was attended by various youth stakeholders in the province with Premier Stanley Mathabatha officially announcing various programmes which will be out rolled in the month of June.
In his address Premier Mathabatha reminded young people about the vigorous role played by the 1976 generation. Mathabatha encouraged young people to take lead and participate in various economic opportunities created by government. He further congratulated young people who came in numbers to attend the launch saying ‘You should learn from the brave and courageous generation of 1976, they did not sit and hope for a miracle to end apartheid; they instead rose up and took a bull by its horns’
Youth month is celebrated yearly with June 16 being a national public holiday in honour of young people who took to the street and fought for equal and better education. This day is celebrated by government institutions, private sector and other non-government organisations
