Limpopo launches 2015 Women’s Month

By Thembi Siweya

South Africans will commemorate the 2015 Women’s Month under the theme ‘Women United in Moving South Africa Forward’. In 1956 on the 9th of August more than 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women.

The Limpopo Provincial government officially launched the National Women’s Month in Madombidzha in the Makhado Municipality. The event was attended by women from various organisations, faith based organisation, corporative, NGO’S etc.

In her address, MEC responsible for Agriculture, Mme Joy Matshoga reminded women that there could never be liberation until all women are free. She encouraged women to continue participating in empowerment activities in their respective communities.

The day was full of deliberations as women raised their ideas on empowerment. National Women’s Day in Limpopo will be celebrated on the 9th of August in Maruleng Municipality at the Willows Stadium.
