Minister of Communication visits Smachblock to asses service delivery

Minister Faith Muthambi  recently met community of Skilpadnest/Smachblock in Thabazimbi Municipality as part of nationwide consumer awareness campaign on Broadcasting Digital Migration project and also to embarked on a community outreach programme in the area.


She told hundreds of people (mostly mine workers) who were gathered at Smachblock Sports Ground that  she was there to also asses service delivery in thier area so that she can inform other departments about service delivery in their area.

The residents told Minister that they have not received basic services like water and electricity since the dawn of  democracy. They buy water from those who have donkey carts who in turn source it from the nearest farms. The area does not have essential services like housing and the roadnetwork remains untarred and uneven.

Reacting to their complaints , Minister Muthambi told them that she had heard them and that she was also concern about service delivery in the area. She told them  that some of their complaints need long term planning were as others were doable within a short space of time. She promised them that she was going to talk to her counterparts, Premier, and  municipalities in order  to address their complaints. She also promised to give feedback every three months about the progress made to address their complaints.

Minister Muthambi was accompanied by Senior Executives from SABC, MDDA, ICASA, Film and Publication Board, and officials from her department. The South African Post Office which is the distributing agent for the set top box devices on behalf of government.

The Minister also announced that South Africa was ready  to migrate from analogue to DTT and that the post office will start to register indigent people soon.
