Older Persons projects get funding

The Office of the Premier  pledged to assist  five projects owned by older persons in the Greater Tubatse Municipality . Each of the projects will get R10 000-00.

The projects are Ga-Phala Aged Club (for Gardening, Sewing and Beadwork), Phidishi Aged Club (for Knitting, Sewing and Beadwork), Phethagatsang Diatla Aged Club (for Sewing, Beadwork, Pottery and Soccer), A re Phafogeng Batjofadi (for Soccer, Sewing and Beadwork) and Bogwasha Aged Club( for Gardening, Sewing, Beadwork and Knitting). This has been announced during the Older Persons day held at Tubatse on 01 October 2015.

Last year the Office also pledged and assist projects owned by people living with disabilities in the Makhado Municipality. It happened during the International Day of the People Living with Disabilities held at Dzanani.

The International Day of Older Persons is a Day celebrated annually on October 1st, to recognised the contributions of older persons and to examine issues that affect their lives.

MEC for Social Development, Mme Joyce Mashamba said that the skills and the experiences of the older persons were needed to assist the younger generations to navigate towards the future. She said that it was the Government’s responsibility to ensure that  senior citizens age with grace and compassion.

For the rest of this month , the government has designed a number of activities for the elder persons. These activities include Provincial Golden Games for older persons which will be held on the 7th of October 2015,at Thohoyandou Stadium.

She ensured older person that they would continue to benefit from social grants from SASSA, indigent services from municipalities, low cost housing from CoGHSTA agricultural programmes from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Free health services in all public health care facilities. Department of Social Development is subsidising eight residential facilities for older persons and about 133 service centres for older persons have been  registered with the Department.
