Limpopo Marula Festival continues to grow in bounds

The Provincial Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism in partinership with the Department of Sport Arts and Culture, Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, Capricorn FM and other stakeholders host 2016 Limpopo Annual Marula Festival at Phalaborwa from 19 February until 28 February 2016.


The opening of festivities around Marula were coupled by cultural perfomance and street carnivals activities that comprised, cultural dance groups, SANDF Brass Band, Stick Walkers, Mascots, Druma Majorettes and Bickers and Golf Tournament.

Later during the mayoral dinner, the MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism Mr Seaparo Sekoati said that his department would not relent until the people of Limpopo are economically liberated. He said that his department has already started as presently there are thirteen cooperatives formed under Mukumbi Industries. The festive generates up to R40 million annually and it is hope that this year will not disappoint. He furher encouraged the people of Phalaborwa in particular to be innovative by welcoming people in their homes during this time of the year to enhance accommodation.

The next day revellers were entertained by the Kwaito artists and DJ’s such as Cassper Nyovest, Ricky Rick, AKA, Emtee Heavy K, Nathi Nomvula, Mmatema, Oskido, Karabo, AB Crazy, Ms Cosmo, Kaleido, Zihle, Professor and many more. Impala Park Stadium indeed proved to be way too small for the Marula Festival as it was full packed to capacity.

Over the years the Marula Festival has identified various activities to appeal to diverse market. There were a few sporting activities to ensure social cohesion, healthy living and economic growth. Limpopo Marula Golf challenge was held over two days, 19 and 20 February 2016 at Hans Merensky Golf Estate. Limpopo Marula half Marathon will take place on Saturday the 27th and 28 February 2016.

The following artist are billed to perform at Gospel and Jazz Festival: Lira, Zonke, Tshepo Tshola, Judithy Sephuma, Sifiso Ncwane, Winnie Mashba, Brian Themba, Thomas Chauke, Colbert Mukwevho, Malatji, Khuthane, Magilo, Zozo, Foster DJ Monada and many more.
