By Ntsakisi Hlungwani

The Limpopo Provincial Government launched Youth Month under the theme: ”Youth Moving South Africa forward’. The event was held on the 1st of June 2016 at Eldorado Sport Centre under Blouberg Local Municipality. The MEC of Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba launched the Youth Month on behalf of the Premier of Limpopo Mr Chupu Stanley Mathabatha.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the 1976 Soweto uprising. The youth of that time including Hector Peterson fought for their rights in education, and paid with their blood. “Hector Peterson died so that you can carry your backpack to school. The 1976 youth paved way for you, therefore make them proud” said MEC to the youth.

As part of Youth Month Launch activities, Dr Ramathuba officially opened a fully equiped Eldorado Youth Centre that is aimed at helping the youth to access internet. “The Government is there to assist the youth, but they must also come up with ideas like this. It begins with you, for your future is in your hands” said Dr Ramathuba before opening the centre.

This youth centre will open doors for the community to access internet and help youth to access valuable information such as employment opportunities, bursaries, applying to higher institutions of learning and research for school among others.

The MEC of Health was accompanied by the Mayor of Blouberg Local Municipality Cllr Sammy Selamolela, Member of Parliament Mr Stan Maila, Acting Mayor of the Capricorn District Municipality Cllr Patricia Mahlo, Council Speaker Mme Maria Thamaga, Leader of Bahananwa people Kgoshigolo Malebogo N I and Director in the Office of the Premier Mr Donald Selamolela.
