Limpopo sport success celebrated

Limpopo Provincial Government held a congratulatory breakfast for sport achievers on the 14th June 2016, at Saskia, Fusion Boutique in Polokwane. The event was organised by Limpopo Provincial Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in partnership with Vodacom.


MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Nandi Ndalane said the department will support achievers with the little they have. MEC Ndalane congratulated achievers for flying the Limpopo flag high, and said they make the Province proud.

The aim of the breakfast was to parade the recent sport achievers and congratulate them for going extra mile in achieving victory. The achievers included Ludwick Mamabolo, Rufas Photo, and Charles Jiyane for comrades’ marathon. Raphasha Lemo and Kekana Koloi for soft ball team, and Boitumelo Maila the 1st black girl to win the around the world race. The owner of Baroka FC, Khurishi Mphahlele was also present to receive the congratulatory message since they won the PSL status.

In his response and representing the other athletes, Mamabolo said it was not an easy journey. “Standing here, some think we are machines, because running 90km without a break it looks impossible”, he said.

Baroka FC owner said that no team in PSL train in a village without bathrooms but his team made it. “Our strength is that we believe in ourselves and not fancy resources that big teams use”, he added.

The event concluded by appreciating the sport achievers with gifts. Baroka FC team received a breakfast voucher from Vodacom. The comrades marathon victors received Vodacom gadgets, and the around the world racers got clothing vouchers from Selaki sport and leisure.
