EXCO outreach Programme visited Mukhushane Sports Ground (Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality), Limpopo on the 11 November 2016. EXCO Programme takes place every month in various communities and its aims is to help communities by giving them a platform to raise the concerns straight to the Members of the Executive Committee.

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality had a privilege to voice out matters that affect schools in their areas, and some of the issues raised includes lack of scholar transport and infrastructure.

MEC for Health in Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba representing MEC for Education in absentia said, “Parents take their children to schools which are far from their homes. These are some of the reasons for transport challenges.” She told the parents that the transport will not be provided to such people as far as departmental policy is concern. The budget available will be used to build schools but the department will start with buildings that were left unfinished and thereafter will continue with building new classes and renovations where required. She also said the Department of Education is aware of the problem of infrastructure in Makhushane and that this will be addressed as per the infrastructure plan. Over 134 projects are underway and in different stages across the province.
