By: Maano Nekhavhambe

Limpopo Province MEC for Education Mr Ishmael Kgetjepe has extended his well wishes to this years’ matriculants ahead of their final examinations which commenced on Monday, 22 October 2018.

The provincial Department of Education has also urged parents and communities at large to give the learners adequate support by creating environments conducive to studying and preparing for these final examinations.

“I wish to take this opportunity to wish this year's Grade 12 learners good luck in their 2018 examinations, starting on 22 October till 28 November 2018. We as the department are grateful that a culture of learning and teaching has always been the norm in our schools. To all of you, we say, Good luck and wish you well.” Kgetjepe said

MEC Kgetjepe hinted that it is now up to the learners to put in the necessary hard work in preparations for their examinations. “Nothing can substitute hard work and we are urging learners to put everything aside and focus on the examinations.

In 2017, Limpopo Province managed to achieve a 65.6% pass rate which was an impressive 3.1% improvement from a 62.5% pass rate of the academic year 2016.

In January 2018, the Premier of Limpopo, Stanley Chupu Mathabatha, said that the increase in the matric pass rate of 3.1% was a cause for celebrations and even though the increase was not quite as high as the Limpopo Provincial Government expected.

Mathabatha also commended MEC Kgetjepe for his efforts and blames the lack of financial crisis management to why the province cannot achieve an 80% pass rate.
