MEC Ramathuba is concerned over Continued Mass Gathering

By: Kanego Lewele

As South Africa is experiencing an increasing number of Corona Virus cases on a daily basis, Limpopo Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba appeals to the people of Limpopo to adhere to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s proclamation on measures to curb further spread of Corona Virus.

Thus far Limpopo has recorded 4 cases on Corona virus out of over 400 cases registered country wide.

The President had made clarion call to all the citizens avoid gathering of more than hundred people as one of the precautionary measure against the spread of corona virus.

MEC Ramathuba says it is concerning that despite the evidence of mass infection in a church set up as was seen in Free State, people continue to gather in churches, drinking halls, funerals and even shopping malls.

"Coming from the weekend, we have seen people gathering in large crowds as if it is still business as usual. This is indicative that some of our community members have still not internalized the veracity of the challenges facing the country," says MEC Ramathuba.

MEC Ramathuba says this is time for community members to take full responsibility for their wellbeing. "Under the circumstance, we expect the people to do what is right and not require police to chase after them in order to do what is right," said Ramathuba.

The MEC views this as a pushback against government's concerted effort to fight the spread against corona virus.

"No matter how much effort government can put on the fight against this scourge, if community members do not play ball, we will not win this battle," says MEC Ramathuba.

Ramathuba has once again called community members to take the issue of corona virus serious and take the necessary precautionary measures to prevent the spread against the virus.
