Today women have endless opportunities

Limpopo Provincial Government in partnership with various stakeholders celebrated International Women’s day at Giyani, Thomo Village in the Mopani District on 8th March 2014.


The event was celebrated under the theme ‘inspiring change’ with special honour besieged upon heroines such as Charlotte Maxeke, Ray Alexander, Ida Ntwana, Helen Joseph, Lilian Ngoyi, Lily Diedericks, Francis Baard, Rahima Moosa, Florence Matomela, Victoria Mxenge, and many others.

In her speech delivered by Ms. Happy Mashamba, MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison, Premier Chupu Stan Mathabatha reminded Limpopo citizens that women in this country continue to occupy strategic positions which they were not even allowed to think of during apartheid.

Ms Mashamba further said:

“Today as women you have endless opportunities, you can follow a career of your choice, you can choose how many children you want, and you can choose a person you fall in love with or a person who you wish to be married to. These are the rights and opportunities which were not available to women in the past”.

United Nations began celebrating International Women’s day on the 8thof March 1975 and many Countries have since joined the commemoration on an annual bases.
