LIMPOPO ON COURSE WITH JOB CREATION PLANS - PREMIER

Polokwane - The Limpopo government says plans by national
government to create half a million job opportunities by
the end of the year are on track in that province.
President Jacob Zuma committed during his State of the Nation
Address earlier this month that government aims to create 500
000 jobs by the end of 2009.
"Limpopo, like all provinces, is heeding the call of the President
to create as many job opportunities as possible.
"We are acutely aware of this national imperative to create jobs and
provide skills to our people," said Premier Cassel Mathale on Thursday.
He made this commitment during a visit by Public Works Minister Geoff
Doidge to the provincial executive council where projects relating to
the Expanded Public Works Programme were discussed.
The Premier said the province will work tirelessly with municipalities
to achieve the objectives of the national call.
"The first phase of this programme created 1.6 million job opportunities
in five years and we reached the target of a million job opportunities with
one year still to go," Minister Doidge said.
He was certain that the 1 million job opportunities of 4.5 million in
the next five years will be achieved.
Around R4.1 billion has been set aside for the next five years as an incentive
to accelerate labour intensive infrastructure delivery, said Minister Doidge.- BuaNews
