LEARNERSHIP PROGRAMMES BENEFIT YOUNG
PEOPLE
In line with the Provincial Human Capital
Investment Strategy, various departments of
government in Limpopo have ensured that
bursaries, learnership and internship
programmes make an impact in so far as
empowering unemployed graduates in the
province.
Interestingly, this year alone the
provincial government has given no less than
1 364 learners’ bursaries to further their
studies in various institutions of higher
learning.
These areas include those identified as rare
skills in the province such as Engineering,
Maths, Science, Technology, Town planning,
financial management, etc.
To that effect, the Office of the Premier
has entered into partnership with
institutions of higher learning such as the
universities of Limpopo, Witwatersrand,
UNIVEN and KZN to help produce skills
required to enhance the economy of the
province.
Since April 2007, 1664 young people have
been placed on learnership programme in the
provincial government.
277 of them have since been permanently
appointed in the public service. In line
with the skills development programme of
ASGI-SA, an additional 2000 will be
appointed in the Office of the Premier not
later than May 2008.
It is also worth mentioning that a total of
1 517 graduates have been placed on
internship programme this year.
