Vital Registration Campaign
06 October 2005
The MEC for Health and Social Development in Limpopo Mr. Seaparo Sekoati
invites all media people to the Launch of Vital Registration campaign which is
carried out in collaboration with the department of Home Affairs. The campaign
will take place at Sekhukhune District which has been declared by President
Thabo Mbeki as one of the Nodal Point in our province. The department is
embarking on this campaign after realizing that more than one thousand people
in the area are without ID books and the birth certificates. The area is also
underdeveloped-without the electricity, no running water and tarred roads. The
fact that people are without vital registration means that they can not access
Social Grants.
The community is without a clinic and it becomes a challenge for them to access
Primary Health Care services at the present moment. The MEC will also lead the
departmental officials in demonstrating to the community on how to purify water
at household level as an intervention to prevent waterborne diseases such as
cholera and typhoid.
The MEC Mr. Seaparo Sekoati and a delegation from the department of Home Affairs
will be engaged in door to door campaign to issue vital documents like ID’s and
birth certificates. The Social Security directorate will register those people
who qualify for Social Grants and the MEC will also be handing over food
parcels to the needy.
The majority of people living in the area are from farm areas and child headed
families.
The event will take as follows:
Venue: Mathukhuthela sports ground A (SekhukhuneDistrict)
Date: 08/10/2005
Time: 10H00
