Appointment of New HoD Department of Health and Social Development
06 June 2006
The department of health and social development is the second big department in
the province, which is continuously faced with a challenge of providing basic
health and social services to more than 1 million people in the province.
Normally it is envisaged that a person who is entrusted with a tusk of leading
such a department should have the leadership skills, be a team player and
leader, have good intrapersonal skills, ability to guide, mentor, support, work
under pressure, get others to produce good results and others. That is in short
what the newly appointed head of department, Dr. Jabulile Victoria Dlamini is
capable of.
In 1982 she obtained a degree in MBchB with the Medical University of South
Africa (MEDUNSA), in 1995 she obtained a Diploma In Health Service Management
(DHSM) with the University of Witwatersrand (WITS), in 2000 she got a
certificate in Public Management with the University of the North (now
University of Limpopo).
As if that was not enough, in 2002 she did a short course in Human Resource
Management with the University of South Africa, in 2005 she studied with the
University of Kwazulu Natal and did a course in Health Facility Planning, in
2005 again she did a course in Internal Health Leadership with Cambridge
University.
Ever since she joined the department in 1984 as a Clinician (practicing doctor)
at Groothoek Hospital she never looked back. In 1993 the hospital recognized
here outstanding hard work and she was appointed Acting Medical Superintendent,
hardly two years down the line (1995) she was the Director: Hospital services.
Because of her gratitude and dedication to her work, Dlamini was appointed
General Manager: District Hospital Services: DoHSD Limpopo in 2003 and now
(June) she is the new Head of Department of Health and Social Development.
Ever since Dlamini joined the Department in 1984 she takes pride in the fact
that she has managed to;
-
Develop and successfully implement a hospital inspection tool.
-
Successfully facilitated the appointment of hospitals boards.
-
The province has the best run internship program in the country.
-
Tintswalo, Lebowakgomo and Elim District hospitals won platinum and bronze
awards in the Premiers awards of Excellence under her leadership.
-
Helped the department in facilitating the taking over of the “SAPS mortuaries”
from the 1st of April 2006.
She is a perfect example of a female achiever, with an inquiring mind,
confidence and strong personality. She has overcome many obstacles to be where
she is today.
