Mental Illness Awareness Day
27 July 2006
The MEC of Department of Health and Social Development in Limpopo, Honourable
Seaparo Sekoati invites all media people to the Mental Illness Awareness Day.
This year, the emphasis is on Mental Health Care Users Rights as human beings
in terms of the legislation and to inform the communities on matters related to
mental illness and where they can get help. They need to be treated with
respect and dignity. Exploitation and abuse need to be reported to SAPS and
Mental Health Review Boards.
Respect of their human rights is a collective effort and hence the theme:
“Partnerships for human rights in mental health”.
Let us be the advocates of people who at times cannot speak, think or express
self rationally. The department has noted with great concern the exploitation
of the mental ill patients’ social grants by some family members and community
pretending to be supporting and yet they want their money for their own
benefit.
The event will take place as follows:
Venue: Lebowakgoma Stadium, Capricorn District
Date: 28 July 2006
Time: 10h00
