Launch of Malaria In-Door Residual Spraying Programme
23 August 2006
The MEC for Health and Social Development in Limpopo, Honourable Seaparo Sekoati
invites all media people (Journalists) to the Launch of Malaria In-door
Residual Spraying Programme. The focus of the programme is to reduce the severe
burden of malaria in communities, promote and educate the community about the
importance of allowing their houses to be sprayed in order to prevent the
malaria disease.
The success of the malaria control programme through in-door residual spraying
has had a very positive impact in reducing the burden of malaria in our
province. The spraying of residual insecticides has proven to be one of the
most effective methods of controlling malaria vectors that feed indoors. In
Limpopo, 605 spray operators, divided into 53 teams are responsible for
carrying out the spraying activities, and for the past year 1.15 million
structures (houses) were sprayed.
The MEC will be joined by Iyvonney Chaka Chaka, who is an Ambassador of Malaria
in the African Continent
