Statement on New Sites Dealing With HIV and AIDS Comprehensive Programme

Limpopo department of Health and Social Development will soon be opening 8 more
sites that were accredited for HIV and AIDS comprehensive programme in
September this year. Already the department is providing HIV and AIDS
comprehensive programme to 26 sites. Antiretroviral services are made available
in a context of comprehensive, care treatment and support at the specific sites
in the province.
The department is funding 267 organizations who are involved in VCT, home based
caring, high transmission areas, youth HIV and AIDS programmes and NGO’s
dealing with people leaving with HIV and AIDS. Voluntary counseling and testing
(VCT) services as well as treatment for sexually transmitted infections and
condoms are available at all government health facilities.
Since the inception of HIV AND AIDS Comprehensive programme in 2004, the
department appointed 301 officials to focus on the implementation of the
comprehensive programme. In the province more than 2112 patients have been
assessed while more than 8000 people are on treatment.
