Equality. Empowerment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Centuries ago on the 08th of March, courageous women took it upon themselves to challenge the system that alienated the female gender from having equal opportunities as men. As a result, International Women\u2019s Day has now become a global phenomenon where women\u2019s rights are celebrated and promoted.<\/p>\n<p>Ably, when addressing her key remarks on behalf of the Premier, MEC for Education Ms. Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya mentioned how the gathering is also a platform to celebrate social and economic achievements of these \u201cMbokodos.\u201d Hence, she boldly expressed: \u201cIt is a great honour to all women who marched before us to see this new generation taking up space in sectors such as agriculture, technology, engineering and more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Echoing the same sentiments, the representative of Progressive Women\u2019s Movement of South Africa, Ms Dikeledi Mmetle admired the success trajectory of females since the adoption of the Women\u2019s Charter in 1954 which is fixed on achieving full and equal participation of women across all domains of life.<\/p>\n<p>Although women still bear the scars of oppression and inequality, they are also still \u201crewriting the narrative\u201d as MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya said, and breaking boundaries while at it. She urged all men to collaboratively abolish any form of patriarchy in their homes and pledge to promote economic justice, safety and representation of women in their lives and those around them. <\/p>\n<p>It is indeed a continuous fight for an environment where women and girls have equal rights, equal opportunities and equal respect. \u201cLet us plant seeds of change that will bloom for generations,\u201d finished the MEC.
