Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba has officially handed over a newly constructed three-bedroom house to Ms. Nokuthula Sithole, affectionately known as the mother of conjoined twin boys born at Mankweng Tertiary Hospital on 28 January 2026.<\/p>\n
The twin boys were born joined at the abdomen until they were successfully separated, by a medical team led by Paediatric surgeon Professor Nyaweleni Tshifularo, during a complex surgical procedure on 17 March 2026 at the same Mankweng Tertiary Hospital. <\/p>\n
Notably, a journey of the conjoined twins touched the hearts of people across Limpopo and as the whole South Africa followed their courageous fight for life with hope despite one of them ending up losing his life on Friday, 03 April 2026. <\/p>\n
During her hospital visit to the conjoined twins\u2019 mother following her traumatic delivery, Dr. Ramathuba committed herself to build a formal dwelling for the family.<\/p>\n
The Limpopo Provincial Government, in conjunction with Risima Housing Corporation constructed and completed the building project and successfully handed it over in a period of three months as per the Premier\u2019s pledge. <\/p>\n
The house handover, which formed part of Service Delivery Week in Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality at the Mopani District which aims to improve service provision around the area as part of the District Development Model (DDM), was held at Lulekani Village, on Wednesday 08 July 2026.
\nSithole, 29, together with her other children, her mother and other family members were living without formal housing prior to the Premier\u2019s pledge and today they are all dwelling in a dignified, safe and conducive environment with running water and proper sanitation. <\/p>\n
Premier Dr. Ramathuba believes the official house handover was indeed a symbol of compassion, dignity, love and government unwavering commitment to ensure that no family walks its journey alone.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery home tells a story. This home will forever tell a story of a province that chose compassion over indifference, unity over division and action over promises. It represents safety, comfort and a place where new memories will be created despite the pain that this family has endured. This project fulfils a commitment we made during the Premier’s Annual Golf Day, where we pledged that the proceeds from that initiative would be used to build a dignified home for this family. We made that promise in good faith and today we proudly honour it. In doing so, we reaffirm that the promises we make to our people are promises we are determined to keep. We have made a commitment, we have delivered and that\u2019s what government is all about\u201d Dr. Ramathuba said <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, an emotional Sithole recalls her traumatic journey after she was initially diagnosed at Maphutha Malatji Hospital in Phalaborwa before being transferred to Mankweng Tertiary Hospital. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a very long journey; I was given a huge challenge. It was very risky as all three of us stood a chance of losing our lives. At the time I have just lost my father and to add on that, one of the boys ended up losing his life.\u201d Recalled Sithole <\/p>\n
Sithole also extended her gratitude to the Limpopo Provincial Government and all stakeholders involved for the support shown since January and for the house received. <\/p>\n
\u201cI want to thank everyone who have supported us throughout this trying times. From my colleagues, the community at Lulekani, our Premier Dr. Ramathuba, Dr. Tshifularo, the staff at Mankweng and Phutha Malaji Hospitals and not forgetting the people of Limpopo. Your support really meant a lot to me. I\u2019m grateful for the house I received, and words alone are not enough to express how grateful I am.\u201d Sithole said <\/p>\n
