{"id":9622,"date":"2026-10-08T17:11:39","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T17:11:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.limpopo.gov.za\/?p=9622"},"modified":"2026-10-08T17:12:02","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T17:12:02","slug":"premier-dr-ramathuba-officially-opens-maxwell-nemadzivhanani-arts-and-culture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.limpopo.gov.za\/?p=9622","title":{"rendered":"Premier Dr. Ramathuba officially opens Maxwell Nemadzivhanani Arts and Culture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba has officially handed over the Maxwel Nemadzivhanani Arts and Culture Centre at Tshilamba Village, Thulamela Local Municipality, Vhembe District on Friday 02 October 2026.<\/p>\n<p>She was accompanied by the Executive Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality Cllr Miyelani Chauke, Mayor of Thulamela Local Municipality Cllr Sarah Rambuda and MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture Ms. Constance Kupa-Mabuza. <\/p>\n<p>The Maxwell Nemadzivhanani Arts and Culture represents a tremendous investment in the arts industry and community development as it will serve as a new home for creativity, heritage and community talent building while providing a dedicated space for local artists to create exhibits and teach. <\/p>\n<p>Following the previous building\u2019s burning to ashes in October 2016, plans to rebuild this iconic landmark commenced. <\/p>\n<p>The site was then handed over to the contractor on 11 October 2021, practical completion was achieved on 30 June 2025, and final completion was recorded on 01 December 2025.<\/p>\n<p>An amount of R55million was spent during the construction of this captivating initiative which comprises a range of infrastructure and amenities designed to support both cultural activities and community use. <\/p>\n<p>The Arts and Culture features one large boardroom, eight offices, 18 stores, a single tuck-shop, kitchen and an amazing auditorium which accommodates up to 180 audiences and an Amphitheatre. <\/p>\n<p>The 18 market stores will provide opportunities for local entrepreneurs, artists and cultural practitioners to conduct their activities and contribute to the local economy.<br \/>\nThe auditorium will provide a suitable venue for cultural programmes, performances, meetings, workshops and community events. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ramathuba accentuated that the Maxwell Nemadzivhanani Arts and Culture shall be rendered a successful government project when people enter its doors, develop their talents, sell their products, tell their stories, create employment and build sustainable livelihoods.<\/p>\n<p>Premier Dr. Ramathuba called on the Thulamela Local Municipality to move with urgency and allocate the market stalls to deserving local SMMEs, artisans and creative entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot afford to have these stalls standing empty while young people and local artisans are looking for platforms to market their products. We must also explore the occupation of some of the office spaces by government departments, development agencies and suitable private institutions. Where appropriate, rental income should contribute towards the maintenance and sustainability of this facility. Let us not build today and neglect tomorrow.\u201d Dr. Ramathuba said <\/p>\n<p>She further called on the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture and the municipalities to ensure that the centre must be programmed.<br \/>\nDr. Ramathuba reckons by developing a calendar of activities, the Maxwell Nemadzivhanani Arts and Culture will remain utilized to its purpose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrganize theatre productions, music performances, poetry sessions, storytelling, dance, exhibitions, craft markets, cultural festivals, skills-development programmes and youth talent competitions. Let this centre be busy. Let its lights be on. Let its auditorium hear the voices of our children. Let its Amphitheatre carry the sounds of our culture and let its market stalls generate income for our people\u201d Dr. Ramathuba suggested<br \/>\nPremier Dr. Ramathuba also emphasized the significance of maintaining this lucrative government project. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment built this facility for the people, and therefore they are expected to protect it. We cannot invest R55 million in a state-of-the-art facility only to allow it to deteriorate through neglect, vandalism or misuse. Government must maintain it. The municipality must manage it responsibly. The users must respect it. The community must protect it.
