Deputy President David Mabuza engages with Limpopo Traditional Leaders
The Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Task Team Deputy President David Mabuza met with the house of Traditional Leaders in Limpopo Province on Thursday, 3 March 2022 at Bolivia Lodge to engage traditional leaders with the concerns raised during the previous meetings in December 2021 and January 2022.
Deputy President David Mabuza has emphasised that traditional leaders are playing an important role in both government and society and also assured them that government will continue to strengthen the relationship with the house of traditional leaders.
Traditional leaders concerns amongst others, are access to land and lack of mineral beneficiation to the mining communities.
In response, David Mabuza said challenges facing traditional leaders are being addressed with the Premier’s and relevant stakeholders.
“We will work closely with Premiers to ensure that government is able to provide essential support to enable traditional leaders to execute their leadership responsibility without any difficulties. Our view is that traditional leadership have a key role to play in development and service delivery interventions that are aimed at changing the lives of traditional communities for the better,” says Mabuza.
Upon establishing the Inter-Ministerial Task Team, President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa has identified at least 10 Cabinet Ministers to be part of the committee. The committee includes all Premiers and MECs for CoGHSTA in all provinces’ across the country in order to cover the scope and scale of all issues affecting traditional leaders.
“For the sake of progress, we have to work together as a team. We must end the conflicts and look forward to achieve the intend objectives.” Mabuza concluded
He was accompanied by Limpopo Province Premier Stanley Chupu Mathabatha and the MEC for Co-Operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) Basikopo Makamu.
