Gift of the Givers lend a hand

It takes a woman of love and discipline to care for the community at large despite the slow economic recovery after two years of total shutdown due to the pandemic. She has demonstrated that being the first lady of the province comes with huge responsibilities of ensuring that there’s stability in the villages.

As part of her programmes, Maggie Mathabatha brought Gift of the Givers on board to assist the Tjiane Drop In Centre, a facility that was established in 2006 to feed 157 most vulnerable kids and learners around the village and invest in their education by providing after care that assist the school going with home works and their studies daily.

Gift of the Givers donated 200 food parcels to families that depends on the social grants without any extra income yet care for more family members that makes the grant not to be enough, child headed house families and those living with disabilities and depend on the disability grant.

The parcel is enough to last families between one and two months depending on the size of the households.

The project manager for Gift of the Givers Tapiwa Marima demonstrated a parcel that consisted of 12,5 mealie meal, cooking oil and rice amongst other basic essential for a food basket.

“We don’t just donate and leave, we do situation analysis and implement the sustainability solution. We are currently at the planning stage and engaging provincial and local government on the most realistic and viable plan which must come into effect in the following two months while beneficiaries are still having the packages” said Marima

The center not only focus on the children but goes as far as creating job opportunities around the surrounding villages by applying for funding from various institutions after they have identified a gap in the community such as a school that needs an educator but no vacant funded post and pay them a stipend.
