Deputy President Paul Mashatile connects and digitizes communities

After visiting the streets of Phagameng to check on the impact the broadband connection has had on local households and small businesses, the second part of the South Africa Connect Phase 2 Launch continued at Ephraim Mogale Stadium, Modimolle-Mookgopong Local Municipality on the 19th of April 2024, wherein Deputy President Paul Mashatile highlighted the importance and purpose of this project. The DP was joined by Limpopo Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha, Minister of Communication and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, and Waterberg District Mayor, Cllr Morris Mataboge.

Deputy President Mashatile emphasized that this project aims to leave no community member behind as the digital space grows. “Our Children rely on the internet. Therefore, this project helps narrow digital gaps by providing accessible internet to members of the community who cannot afford it,” said DP Mashatile.

“Now the youth in the Modimolle community can apply for employment and give developing businesses the opportunity to grow their network,” added DP Mashatile.

“Access to the internet breaks down geographical barriers and connects communities within South Africa. So, let us not underestimate the power of speedy connectivity and its ability to connect and develop communities through digital technologies,” expressed Chupu Stanley Mathabatha, Premier of the Limpopo Province. He further said that since the implementation of this project in the Limpopo province, local communities have improved their ways of living for the better.

The Minister of Communication and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, explained that this project is dived into three pillars which will connect service providers, public institutions such as schools and health facilities, as well as government organizations. Minister added that this will also boost the economy of local communities and small businesses with the likes of Kkholeka Lwana, who is the CEO of Lokshin Wi-Fi.

In essence, SENTECH has one goal: To achieve a large amount of broadband connectivity and drive economic growth by 2030.
