Prayers intensify for free and non-violence elections
The Limpopo Provincial Prayer Day for the 2024 General Elections took place at Jack Botes Hall, Polokwane yesterday. The session was arranged by different religious groups and government to pray for a fair, political tolerance and peaceful election.
Attendees who availed themselves to the service included Premier, Chupu Stanley Mathabatha, MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, as well as church, political, and Provincial Government leaders.
The significance of this ceremony is to pray for the upcoming elections that will take place on the 29th of May 2024, the prayer was dedicated to peaceful election, stability, and harmony as the country celebrates 30 years of freedom since the first election in 1994.
Giving the sermon, Bishop Naledzani Sikhwari said the prayer is meant to ask for leaders that will lead the country in peace.
“As we mark our X on that ballot paper on the 29th, may God bring about leaders who will lead our country to justice and peace for every citizen.” Said Sihwari
Giving his remarks during the prayer, Premier Mathabatha praised the South African Council of Churches (SACC) for their continues prayers throughout the years. SACC has had prayer sessions for good governance and leadership.
“Through your prayers, Limpopo has become a province that is free from disclaimers of opinion and has good governance. We will become a successful and just country post 29 May elections because nothing beats prayer”. Remarked Mathabatha
In the same spirit of celebrating 30 years of Freedom and Democracy, South Africans are encouraged to cast their votes to promote a country that is safe, free with freedom of speech and association.
With prayer session, people of Limpopo will continue to experience reformed political culture that will cater to the needs of ordinary people with the assurance and hope that the country will change for the better post the 2024 elections.
