BET Award Winner Makhadzi brings trophy home
Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, together with the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, hosted the homecoming celebration of Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, popularly known as Makhadzi on 11 July 2024 at Meropa Casino & Entertainment World.
Limpopo Premier Ramathuba led the breakfast session following Makhadzi’s triumph at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) award ceremony held in Los Angeles, United States of America on Sunday, the 30th of June 2024 where she scooped the Best New International Act award. The BET awards are an American award show established in 2001 by a Black Entertainment Television network, and it celebrates black artistry and other minorities in music, film, sport, and philanthropy.
Wherefore, the Premier detailed how this win is not only a promotion of Makhadzi’s passion to her craft, but of the South African music industry and the numerous indigenous languages found wherein, especially the Limpopo province. She further expressed proudly: “It is evident that the arts industry has a great ability to contribute immensely to the economic growth and cultural tourism of the Limpopo Province, which can be used to effectively promote social cohesion and nation building.”
In her category, she competed against other artists from various countries such as Nigerian singer/songwriter, Seyi Vibez, South African Amapiano producer, Tyler ICU, as well as a popular French group called Holly G. She was victorious among them all and clinched the prestigious accolade.
Admittedly, Limpopo’s dime, Makhadzi, welcomed the overwhelming support from her family, fans, and professional stakeholders present, and is now focusing on winning the Grammy award to complete her trophy cabinet. She is also grateful to the Limpopo Provincial Government that is set to host her first ever one-woman show scheduled for the 21st of December 2024.
Going down memory lane, Makhadzi is delighted to dedicate her victory to her supporters from humble beginnings, hence she said: “I’m happy at the way things have unfolded. It was unbelievable to hear that I was nominated for this award, but I am happy I won. To those who purchased my CDs in the past and watched me sing under the trees of Thoyandou Town, I dedicate this award to you.” MN
