67 minutes of love and kindness
Although scholars encourage human beings to constantly choose kindness, the 18th of July is a day to lend a helping hand intentionally and willingly to those who need it most. For this reason, employees from the Limpopo Office of the Premier celebrated Nelson Mandela International day at Kgaugelong Disability Care Centre (KDCC) situated in Ga-Chuene, Polokwane, by raising awareness on disabilities.
KDCC is a non-profit organisation which primarily provides social assistance and support to children living with the cerebral palsy condition. This is an inborn disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture which is caused by abnormal brain development. The centre also offers speech and physiotherapy for their learners, to boost intellectual and physical development.
The principal of the centre, Ms. Manthepa Ntsoane mentioned how some of the learners came to the facility at a tender age without any knowledge of doing things, especially on their own.
Thus, they instilled them with skills such as writing, vocabulary, including basic life skills. Just like Kabelo Mamabolo, who graduated from the centre and is now enrolled at a special needs school called “Tsoga o itirele” located at Ga-Mphahlele, learning to be independent.
In support of these good deeds by the OTP employees, entities present on the day including Old Mutual, GEMS (Government Employees Medical Scheme), Astron Energy and others, donated supplies needed by the centre. These essentials included sanitary towels, nappies, stationery, food, and so much more. The gestures do not stop there, as all caregivers were treated to a one-night stay at an elite hotel, courtesy of Protea Landmark Hotel. This is to extend gratitude for their loving and munificent hearts that are able to cater to these special children and helping them flourish.
Several representatives from different Departments such as Social Development and Agriculture also contributed in amplifying these charitable actions by pledging to continuously support the facility beyond 67minutes. PM
