The eight kilometre hike to activate Tourism Thursdays

On the 19th of September 2024, Limpopo’s first female Premier, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba led Executive Members and media on an 8-kilometre hike at Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve in Tzaneen to officially activate the Tourism Thursdays’ activities.

Since the launch of Tourism Month on the 22nd of August this year at Fumani Lodge, the Premier made a pledge to contribute to promoting Limpopo as a tourist destination. Thus, she embarked on the #TourismThursdays initiative by hiking the lush landscapes of Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve along with her companions.

Premier, Dr. Ramathuba urged that everyone should elevate the province’s appeal to both domestic and international visitors and solidify Limpopo as a premium tourist attraction. “The promotion of tourism is not the sole responsibility of the Limpopo Tourism Agency, but a collective duty for everyone as the primary beneficiaries of local economic development,” said the Premier.

When sightseeing the exquisite Lekgalameetse Waterfall, MEC for LEDET (Limpopo Economic Development, Environment, & Tourism), Mr. Tshitereke Matibe expressed: “The main objective for this initiative is to re-awaken and re-imagine Limpopo as the jewel it is.” Matibe also revealed that in the upcoming Investment Conference to take place in October, they aspire to invest in five nature reserves in the province.

The delegation and dignitaries including the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District, Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo, journalists, and other media further enjoyed the serenading ambiance of nature that Limpopo has to offer. This is why Premier, Dr. Ramathuba called on every single citizen to visit and explore all these beautiful sites in an endeavour to market and showcase Limpopo’s breathtaking natural beauty and rich heritage.

Through aggressive campaigns such as these, more visitors can be drawn into the province, local economies can be boosted, and job opportunities for young people can be created. Overall, the natural wonders of the Limpopo province can be preserved for future generations.
