Premier Dr Ramathuba participates in Elderly Soccer Tournament

The Premier of Limpopo, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba spent her morning in Xigalo Cosmos Sports Ground in Collins Chabane Local Municipality to participate in the Elderly Soccer Festival on the sunny morning of 13 October 2024.

She was joined by MECs: Mr. Jerry Maseko of Sport, Arts, & Culture, Ms. Florence Radzilani of Social Development, Ms. Dieketseng Mashego of Health, Ms. Nakedi Kekana of Agriculture & Rural Development, as well as other Executive Members.

On this month dedicated to social development and welfare, Premier, Dr. Ramathuba encourages senior citizens to lead a life where healthy living becomes a norm. Hence, she and her team took to the ground for a match against their opponents for the day, Executive Mayors, which demonstrated that it was more than just securing goals but promoting active ageing in the lives of older people.

The tournament also goes beyond winning a medal because it coincides with one of the Social Development programmes, ‘Golden Games’ that aims to improve the quality of healthy living among the elderly. “We are committed to creating an environment where older persons are not only protected, but also empowered to live independently and actively participate in society,” emphasised the Premier.

Amid the games, a mobile clinic on wheels was available for spectators and other people attending the games to receive free medical attention and check-ups. Moreover, the festivities concluded with the RoadHuise FC All Stars team claiming victory against their opponents, Happy Fighters FC, where they collected medals, trophies, and received soccer kits for their club.
