Provincial Marula Fest boosts local economy

The much anticipated annual Marula Festival took centre stage at the Impala Rugby Stadium of Phalaborwa, the 1st of March 2025, where it did more than just bring locals together, but greatly boosted the economy of the town.

The festival is a strategic initiative with a collaborative effort between LEDET, LEDA, and other key stakeholders aimed at promoting Limpopo’s economic growth and development. It brings about social cohesion in the province, while giving local entrepreneurs a chance to grow their businesses as well.

This annual event is more than just self-proclaimed dancers busting their best moves, or endless banter held in questionable corners, or even laughter that stings ones stomach and exposes their colgate smile – certainly not!

It is a creative and inclusive platform that aims to preserve the beautiful indigenous cultures of the Limpopo province, drive economic growth, and boost tourism. This is done by celebrating the thousand year-old fruit, Marula, which has now become a symbol of cultural identity in some parts of Limpopo.

Ably, local businesses such as street vendors, accommodation providers, and others thrive and benefit from the jovial celebration. Lastly, the festival offers local and international visitors the opportunity to learn about the marula fruit and its brewing process.

People danced the night away and enjoyed live music from artists including the BET award winner Makhadzi, the sensational Zonke, Reverend Benjamin Dube, Pleasure Tsa Manyalo and much much more! PM
