Premier Dr Ramathuba pays homage to fallen SANDF Soldier

On the 2nd of March 2025, Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba traveled to Ka-Hlaneki Village in Giyani to visit the family of a brave SANDF soldier who lost his life during a peace mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo a few months ago, Rifleman Derrick Maluleke.

The somber mood did not stop Premier Ramathuba and CoGHSTA MEC, Basikopo Makamu from paying homage to one of 14 SANDF soldiers who dedicatedly served for their country with pride.

Although many believe that the visit was prompted by controversial remarks blasted on social media regarding tribalism and selective priorities, Premier Ramathuba made it crystal clear that, the intention to engage with the Maluleke family was there from the moment the tragic news were known.

“As the Limpopo Provincial Government, we stand in solidarity with the Maluleke family during this difficult time and extend our profound gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief of the South African National Defence Force and His Excellency President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa for according Rifleman Derrick Maluleke and his fallen comrades the dignity of a state funeral,” firmly said the Premier.

She also commended the fallen hero fo his unwavering commitment to the cause of justice. At the age of 41, Derrick made the ultimate sacrifice, demonstrating his deep love for South Africa and the African continent at large.

The Provincial Government extends their deepest condolences to a hero who stood in the frontline of peace and stability even beyond the country’s borders. PM
