SMS Summit takes stock of 2024/2025 commitments
The Limpopo Provincial Government held its annual Senior Management Summit just weeks few before the end of the 2024/2025 financial year in preparation to determine progress of resolution taken in the last summit, evaluate and assess the current performance in relation to management mandate.
The two day strategic event was held at The Ranch Hotel, Polokwane from 6th until the 7th of March 2025. Senior managers from the level of Director, Deputy Director General, Head of Department and Chief Directors from state entities and the provincial government graced the important calendar event.
One of the highlights flagged during the summit was improved audit outcomes in various departments which, reflets accountability and good governance in line with the Public Management Financial Act (PMFA).
Addressing managers, Premier Dr Phophi Ramathubu said the people of Limpopo expect the summit to come up with ways to translate government promises to tangible reality to the benefit of Limpopo citizens.
“Your role as Senior Management Service members is crucial; it is upon your shoulders that the mantle of implementation rests. We must continuously assess how our management skills respond to the aspirations of our people. We are fortunate to witness the stability of our province, exemplified by our leadership in paying contractors within 30 days.”
In the last year, the summit committed to consolidate the implementation of ethical, developmental state and public service professionalization.
However, the province still experiences challenges in ICT governance and digital transformation of integrated e-government and digital services which, the summit aims to resolve and give report during executive management meetings in various departments leading to the next summit.
The Office of The Premier has expanded the capacity building for Senior Management Services to include Middle management as part of retention and recruitment strategy that will see the provincial government sustainability.
The province has also advertised vacant positions of Head of Department that will have a positive impact in accountability and sustainability. EC
