Dr Hlengani Joseph Maluleke honored at the 2nd Limpopo Medical Awards

The Limpopo Independ Practitioners Association (LIPA) in partnership with Old Mutual, Marara Pharmacy, JDJ Pathology Laboratories and Cipla hosted the 2nd Limpopo Medical Awards, which honored Dr Hlengani Joeph Maluleke with a lifetime Achievement Award. The prestigious black-tie event was held at Fusion Boutique Hotel, Polokwane on Saturday.

Born and raised in Mokopane with more than 36 years experience as a practicing medical doctor, Dr Maluleke speialises in Obstetrics and Gynecology obtained from Medical University of South Africa (MDUNSA).

Being a doctor was a dream he lived for after being exposed to the medical environment during one of the career guidance visits while in matric at Setotolwane College in 1982.

It was during his tenure as a medical intern in 1989 at Groothoek Hospital that he developed an interest in gynecology and pursued his studies while serving Mankweng Hospital as a medical officer.

Between 1996 and 2005, Dr Maluleke was a specialist lecturer at MEDUNSA and Pietersburg -Mankweng Academic Complex where he shared his wealthy knowledge with students before opening his private practice in 2006.

Accepting his award, Dr Maluleke emphasized on contributing to the community of Limpopo by dedicating his retirement time partnering with the provincial government to improve services with the experience accumulated over the years.

“There must be a summit between private doctors and government on how private doctors can contribute to improving access to healthcare because, private doctors really want to contribute to the state of health sector in the province.”

Since its inception, the awards aim at recognizing doctors that have gone an extra mile in, in cooperating profession with ubuntu to benefit rural health care and to motivate upcoming young doctors to stay true to their call and professional ethics.

The awards recognized and embraced social media as a platform that doctors use to raise awareness with the public about certain conditions and medical students who are academically at the top and are about to qualify to become professional doctors. EC
