“Be a generation that is not just included but leading!”
During the launch of Youth Month Programme of Activities held at Hwiti Secondary School on the 3rd of June 2025, MEC for Social Development, Ms Florence Radzilani delivered an empowering message on behalf of the Premier that instilled hope and eagerness in the hearts of youngsters in attendance.
She reflected on all the strides fallen brave souls took in 1976 when they marched in the streets of Soweto against the oppressive education system pressed onto them. A lion like Peter Ramoshoana Mokaba proved that the battle was more than just Afrikaans being a language of instruction in schools, but a battle of dignity, inclusion, and empowerment for young people.
Thus, “Skills for the changing world – Empowering youth for meaningful economic participation” is a theme that displays government’s commitment of equipping young people with the tools, platforms, and skills needed to shape not only their own futures, but the future of Limpopo and South Africa as a whole. Ably, MEC Radzilani implores the youth to take up space and be part of economic drivers of the province.
She also echoed on behalf of the Premier, “Let your dreams not end at slogans but transform them into proposals and pitches. Be present not only on social media but in community projects, youth structures and boardrooms. We urge you to occupy space not with entitlement but with excellence and hard work.”
Evidently, one youngster who is on that trajectory of success and an inspiration to many is Fortunate Setwaba. Popularly known as Nate from season five of the infamous Big Brother Mzansi reality show, she expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she received during her stay in the house and outside in the real world. As a medical practitioner, media personality and make-up artist, Nate appreciated government’s involvement in everything that concerns the youth.
This is exactly what the theme underscores, that young people can develop skills from any field of study or work and sustain themselves while contributing towards the economic development of the country. The provincial government encourages the youth to leverage on every single opportunity presented before them to #GearUp4Greatness for their future. Oh, the liberty to be young, have opportunities and thrive; a legacy heroes like Peter Mokaba died fighting for. PM
