Limpopo to host two FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

The New Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane has been confirmed as a host venue for Lesotho’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying fixtures against Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

This is due to Lesotho’s predicament of not having adequate infrastructures and FIFA approved stadiums within their borders and Likuena opted to host their qualifying home games in South Africa following an agreement with the world football governing body, FIFA, and the South African government.

These two much anticipated international fixtures will see the city of Polokwane hospitality sector recording a surge in bookings around the two match-day dates, street vendors and small businesspeople especially in e-hailing and other transportation industry will also receive major boosts to their businesses which is good for the economy of Limpopo Province.

Lesotho will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their must win clash on Friday, 10 October 2025, before wrapping up their qualifying campaign against neighbors Zimbabwe on Tuesday, 14 October 2025.

Heading to this Friday clash, hosts Lesotho will be boosted by their new Group C log standings after being awarded the three points lost agaisnt South Africa back in March following Bafana Bafana’s negligence of fielding an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, who was suspended for that encounter.

This means both Likuena and Super Eagles of Nigeria still have a slim chance for automatic qualification to the global spectacle in the United States of America, Mexico and Canada next year.

Only Zimbabwe do not stand a chance of any qualification as they are rooted at the bottom of the Group C standings.
Kick-off for both encounters are scheduled for 18:00.
