Limpopo records 5,2% drop in unemployment rate
Unemployment is a significant economic and social issue that affects individuals, families, and communities globally as it occurs when individuals willing and able to work are unable to find suitable employment and such has been the case in Limpopo Province as well.
Unemployment may lead to financial hardships, Skill erosion, career setbacks and psychological impacts.
Limpopo has recorded a significant 5,2% drop in unemployment, currently standing at 29,8% from 35% in the second quarter of 2025.
This is according to the recent data released by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) which also highlighted that the overall unemployment rate eased by at least 1,3%, decreasing from 33,2% recorded from the second quarter to 31,9% in the third quarter respectively.
Conspicuously, Limpopo is at the summit of the nationwide charts with the largest fall in unemployment rate, much to the delights of Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba.
“We welcome the results of the Q3 Labour Force Survey, which affirm our earlier assessments regarding Limpopo’s economic growth trajectory.
Our province’s contribution of 0.9% to the national GDP highlights the strides we are making as we work collectively to provide opportunities for our residents.”
Despite the significant progress to assuage unemployment in the province, Dr. Ramathuba reckons 29.8% is not ideal to celebrate but a step towards making sure that unemployment in Limpopo reaches below 20% as championed in the Limpopo Development Plan which is why the 7th administration is pushing for more industrialization, specially manufacturing in the province.
Dr. Ramathuba further hireinforcethat the 7th Administration remains dedicated to fostering a thriving economy in Limpopo and the positive shift in unemployment statistics reinforces the determination to create jobs, fight poverty and curb the high cost of living for all residents of the province.
