Water is an economic asset, says Limpopo Premier

Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba reckons that water is not just a necessity but also an economic asset serving as a foundation on which government utilizes to build industrialization, agriculture, mining, tourism, housing, education, tourism and investment.

She was addressing audiences during the Lepelle Northern Water Charity Golf Day and Price giving Gala Dinner at Euphoria Golf Estate, Modimole-Mokgopong Local Municipality, on Friday 11 September 2026.

“As we prepare for the upcoming Limpopo Investment Conference in October 2026, our message to investors is clear. Limpopo is open for investment, but investment requires infrastructure and infrastructure requires water. You cannot lay the first brick of a factory, hospital, school, housing project or business development without reliable water which is why the observation by the leadership of Lepelle Northern Water that no development can take place without water must remain firmly at the Centre of our development agenda.” Dr. Ramathuba said

This noble cause, which also formed part of the Lepelle Northern Water ‘s 66th anniversary of servicing the people of Limpopo coupled with the 55th year milestone of existence of the Water Research Commission, was held under the powerful theme: “The Power of Collaboration.”

The Lepelle Northern Water Charity Golf Day fundraising initiative was significant as it projected beyond today’s challenges towards tomorrow’s solutions.

Premier Dr. Ramathuba confirmed that the proceeds will assist students who intends to pursue water engineering careers, helping society develop skills required to solve future water challengess.

This initiative comes at a time when the Limpopo Provincial Government’s 7th administrations are seeking to revive and strengthens the Premier’s Bursary Fund.
