Premier Ramathuba hands the winner’s trophy at Limpopo Golf Championship: Sunshine Tours
Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba attended the 2026 Limpopo Golf Championship: Sunshine Tours to hand over the winner’s trophy at Euphoria Golf Estate and Lifestyle, Waterberg District, on Sunday.
Dr. Ramathuba handed the winner’s trophy to the newly crowned champion, Kyle Barker, after he overturned a nine-shot deficit and triumphed in the playoffs to claim his third Sunshine Tours title.
It was Barker’s first trophy since 2023, respectively.
“This is the best moment of my life so far in my golfing career, seeing as I just became a dad three months ago,” Barker said
Barker said he expected the encounter to be a daunting task against the likes of Cole Stevens in the final decisive play-offs.
“I don’t know how this one happened today to be honest. I had no expectations going into the round. To find myself in a playoff with such a good player like Cole Stevens was amazing,” Barker highlighted
Hosted by the Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA), The 2026 Limpopo Golf Championship: Sunshine Tours commenced from Thursday 01 October until its conclusion on Sunday 04 October 2026.
It featured a field of 115 local and international golfers teeing off for a prestigious R2.5million prize.
Notably, the prestigious spectacle on the Sunshine Tours featured defending champion Pieter Moolman and a vast number of top players, including nine of the current top 10 ranking of Merit golfers.
Premier Dr. Ramathuba believes the four-day spectacle was good for tourism in Limpopo.
“This was good for tourism in the province of Limpopo because in the morning you play golf and during the day you relax and enjoy your safari seeing the big fives without going to the Zoo or Kruger National Park. There are lots of sites within proximity where you can drive to and enjoy the safaris like the Legends Safaris, Modimolle mountains and even Phalaborwa. This week most hotels in the Waterberg Districts are fully booked for this event which is good for the economic ecosystem.” Dr. Ramathuba said
