Accessible nutritional food for Africa

Following the launch of Africa Public Service Day (APSD) on Wednesday, the main commemoration event was held in Greater Tzaneen Municipality. The town of Tzaneen is the home of the rain queen Motjatjie which was evident that the National Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) did not fault in choosing the province of Limpopo to host as the event was showered by rainy clouds when the focus of the ASPD was in building resilience in nutrition on the African continent.

Africa Public Service Day (APSD) is an entrenched strategic event on the African Union (AU) calendar, emanating from the declaration of the first Pan-African Conference of Ministers of Public Service held in 1994 in Morocco.

Government is tasked with supporting farmers to produce adequate food to feed the nation and export to other countries. With the high price of food in the country that affects all classes but the poorer the most remains a challenge to access nutritional food for all. The most vulnerable communities are unable to afford basics such as meal mealie.

The recent war between Ukraine and Russia, the KZN floods, climate change together with covid 19 pandemic has exacerbated the living conditions to a healthy lifestyle with affordable and accessible nutritional food.

The department of Rural Development and Agriculture has an ongoing programme to support farmers and redistribute land to emerging farmers to produce more buy strengthening food security in the country and continent through exports, while the department of Health and Education ensures that patients and learners are feed while under their care to fight malnutrition together with the department of Health are supporting the most vulnerable learners with school feeding progrmme.

During her keynote address Deputy Minister of DPSA Dr Pilane Mojake encouraged public servants to continue proving quality efficient services to the public without being corrupt but rather to be accountable and improving governance.

“our front line health workers proved commitment during the evacuation of students that were based in China during the outbreak of Covid19 in Polokwane and managing the pandemic”.
