MEC lashes underperforming Sekhukhune District

By Elvis Tshikhudo and Maanda Mulaudzi

MEC of Education Mr. Ishmael Ketjepe recently criticised Sekhukhune District for not performing well in matric results. Sekhukhune and Waterberg Districts are always getting position four (4) and five (5) out of five districts in Limpopo matric results.

In 2014 Sekhukhune got position five with 63.9% and in 2015 also position five with 55.0% pass , decline by 8.9%. Waterberg District got 70.5% pass in 2014 and obtain position four (4) whereas in 2015 the district got 58.1%, a drop of 12.4%.

Speaking during the Awards 2016 Aveng Kutlwaning Redibone Centre  in Jane Furse Comprehensive School recently, MEC Kgetjepe said that the schools should use the little resource they have to achieve more like what is happening with other schools in the province which are using  little resources to achieve more. He said he visited many schools in the province and found that achieving good results is being done by hard work educators and not that they have enough resources.

The MEC went further to encourage parents to provide necessary support to their children and to discourage them from disrupting classes. He added that there would be consequences for the   schools that are unable to perform. He encourage parents and other stakeholders to be part of the solution rather than causing problems.

In 2015, performance in all districts decline. This decline has resulted in Waterberg and Sekhukhune Districts performing below the national norm of 60%. In other words these two distrcts have underperformed.
