Collins Chabane Municipality completes Xitlhelani ring road and Xikundu road

The Xitlhelani ring road project at Malamulele, Collins Chabane Local Municipality, has been completed.


The 3.6 km road construction project was completed two months before its envisaged deadline. The appointed contractor commenced in September 2017 but thanks to its efficiency, the construction work was done and dusted by January 2018 instead of the forecast March 2018.

The municipality spent R27 million on the upgrade of the road, from gravel to a tarred road.Prior to this project, motorists around Malamulele drove on a gravelled Xitlhelani ring road which was in poor state that worsened during rainy seasons.

Following the completion of the Xitlhelani ring road earlier this year, traffic congestion in this Collins Chabane Municipality areas is the thing of the past. Furthermore this milestone will go a long way in boosting the local economy.

Meanwhile, the Municipality has also completed a 7km Xikundu road project outside Saselemani village. The initial project was started by the Thulamela Local Municipality in 2016 before Collins Chabane Local Municipality was established.

The contractors appointed by Thulamela Municipality continued with the constructions until the end. No amount of funds spent on this project has been disclosed at this stage but however, the total approved Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) for all projects including Xitlhelani ring road and Xikundu road is estimated at R61.6 million.

Xikundu road is also a National government project to honour the late former Minister of the Department of Public Services and Administrations (DPSA), Honourable Collins Chabane, and the road is heading straight to his house after diverging from the R524 Punda Maria road.
