On the 19th of November 2020, the Vhembe District Municipality in partnership with the Limpopo Provincial Government hosted a day of celebration in Pile Village at the Konanani Disable people’s Co-operative premise.

The day was set aside to celebrate the strides that women living with disabilities are making in the different sectors of the economy with various Provincial Departments and District Municipalities at elbow’s length to provide much needed help advice and ideas.

Ms Lydia Nemafhohoni Chairperson of the Konanani Disable Peoples Co-operative told of the humble beginnings of the Community company saying the Co-operative started way back in 2004 and was registered formally in 2009  and has nine permanent workers specialising in rearing boiler chickens selling them making composite from the waste that the chickens make and also from the leaves of the trees that are on the property

The Department of Agriculture assisted the cooperative by donating 1000 small chicks with 8 bags of feed. The cooperative continues to operate even the employees have not been paid for nine years and don’t have  enough water to sustain their project. Their market for the produce is the community around Pile village

Mayor of The Vhembe District Municipality Mr. Dowelani Nenguda reiterated the commitment of Government in providing a shoulder of support to women  living with disabilities  by providing much needed land, suggestions ideas, market knowledge and farming.
