COVID 19 Vaccine Roll-Out Plan

The Provincial Government has held a media briefing exactly four days after Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize and President Cyril Ramaphosa  received more than a million consignment from  India at the OR International Airport.


The Province is scheduled to start with the vaccination on the 15th February, the first phase is expected to be concluded in three weeks while the second leg of the first phase will be administered in six to eight weeks to allow the effectiveness of the medicine .

With the 44 526 shots that has been allocated to the Province by National Department of Health, a team of  200  trained health professionals that includes doctors, nurses and pharmacist will  be expected to vaccinate 50 people per team.

The Premier and MEC for Health will be included in the first phase that targets health care professionals to inspire confidence that the vaccine is safe.

“I will be taking the vaccine to lead by example, I will be the first citizen of the Province to be vaccinated to prove that the vaccine is safe, we have no doubt, to believe that it is not safe. Members of the Legislature will also be encouraged to lead by example to inspire confidence in our people. People have suffered in their earlier lives because their refusal to be vaccinated lead them to suffer from other health issues that could have been avoided by being vaccinated”. Premier Mathabatha

The second phase of the roll out plan will target funeral parlours employees, retails personnel, people above the age of 60 with comorbidities and any personnel that were classified as essential workers since the outbreak of the virus when lockdown restriction was introduced.

The Premier has assured people of Limpopo that they will not be given the vaccine against their will and that it will be administered at no cost.
