Traditional Leaders to participate in Government Medical Scheme

All traditional leaders will be participating in the Government Medical Aid Scheme known as GEMS. MEC Jerry Ndou announced this while he was opening Limpopo House of Traditional Leaders on behalf of Premier Chupu Mathabatha. The opening was done at Thohoyandou, Vhembe District on 19 September 2014. Traditional leaders from Limpopo and other provinces were part of the ceremony.


MEC Ndou announced that the provincial government had paid all salary arrears which were owed to traditional leaders in accordance with agreement in May.” We have also managed through Seriti Commission, to ensure that the salaries of Kings and Senior Traditional Leaders are standardised. In the same vein we have developed a policy prescript guiding the remuneration of headmen” he said.


He told the traditional leaders that the process of refurbishment and construction of new traditional authority offices was continuing as planned. The government had appointed staff in all traditional authority offices and that helped improve the administration of traditional communities.

He further remarked that his government also celebrate the fact that our traditional leaders were actively participating in our municipal councils and that their participation at that level of governance add value to the government efforts to improve conditions of living of our people.
